FAQs

What parents ask about comfort & sedation

What options are available?
Nitrous oxide and, when appropriate, oral conscious sedation. We’ll recommend the safest match for your child’s needs and the planned procedure.
Is sedation safe for kids?
Yes—safety is always the priority. We follow evidence-based protocols, review medical history, and monitor your child throughout the visit.
Can we try without sedation first?
Absolutely. Many children do well with kid-first communication and coping strategies, sometimes with nitrous, or no medication at all.
How should we prepare?
We’ll provide clear pre-visit instructions. Bring a comfort item, keep language positive and simple, and follow any eating/drinking guidelines we provide.
Will my child remember the visit?
Nitrous wears off quickly and most kids feel relaxed but alert. Oral sedation can make the visit feel hazy; we’ll review what to expect before your appointment.
How soon can normal activity resume?
Usually the same day for nitrous. For oral sedation, most children are back to normal by the next day unless we advise otherwise.
